Deciding between volume and border first makes consultation easier.
Hyaluronic acid is placed inside the lip to add volume, or along the border to sharpen the outline. Adding volume and defining the border need different amounts and different placement. The lips move a lot, so swelling tends to last a little longer.
One session lasts six to twelve months, varying by product. The lips move more than anywhere else on the face — talking, eating, smiling — so they absorb quickly. Defining just the border uses less volume than adding fullness, so it fades a little sooner.
