One session lasts nine to eighteen months, varying by product. The ear has no expression muscles, so the filler is rarely compressed, but only a small amount goes in, so even slight absorption changes the shape noticeably. Rather than counting on a long duration, it is topped up as the shape asks for it.

Downtime is mild at one to three days, with swelling for a few days. The ear has thin tissue with cartilage right beneath, so pressure on the treated spot easily distorts the shape. Be careful with earphones and mask straps for a few days, and avoid lying with the ear compressed.

Hyaluronic acid filler can be reversed with a dissolving injection. A small amount changes the ear a great deal, so building up gradually is safer than placing the full amount at once. Judging the shape after the swelling has gone is more accurate.
