A body fat-dissolving injection reduces local fat on the stomach or thighs with injected medication. It contains an ingredient that breaks down the membrane of fat cells, and the broken fat is absorbed and cleared. It is used on areas that resist exercise and diet, and it shapes a specific area rather than reducing weight.

It is given in three to five sessions at two to four week intervals. Change shows from three to five days and settles over one to two weeks, which is how long the body takes to process and clear the broken-down fat. The area is large, so it is usually worked through zone by zone rather than all at once.

The area is larger than the face, so more goes in per session and swelling and bruising are greater. That is an expected inflammatory response as the fat cells break down, but if the area rubs against clothing it can be uncomfortable for a few days. Downtime is one to three days; avoid alcohol on the day.
